Third-Person Shooters

Like the first person shooters, third person shooters come in both linear and open world varieties. Most have you completing a dozen or so levels where your path is generally mapped out while others allow you to expore large areas separated by load screens. While Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 is clearly aimed at the PvP multiplayer market, it still boasts a good single-player experience. Two titles: Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 (EA Origin) and Gears of War 4 (Windows Store) are unavailable on Steam.

Judging by the few franchises that get the open-world right, this is a difficult genre to succeed in. Decent developers here, while not quite as sparse as in the first-person department, number around a dozen and as such there are plenty of prequels and sequels. Ubisoft grab six slots altogether and, with Assassin's Creed crushing the open-world Hack & Slash section, it proves how proficient and prolific they are at producing open-world games. Destroy All Humans should probably replace Sunset Overdrive but I haven't made the purchase yet so...
