Action Platformers

This is another crowded genre with some very notable and critically acclaimed absences such as Guacamelee, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight and the more recent Katana Zero (which I haven't got round to playing enough to be considered). Most of these come in two flavours: the mega-man and/or the metroidvania style with speedrunners such as Action Henk and Super Meat Boy being added to the mix. Giana Sisters, Juju and Spelunky bring platform-puzzling elements to the table as well. All consist of run and gun gameplay and a lot of shooting and killing apart from the aforementioned speedrunners which are mainly about best times. One I surprisingly didn't get on well with was the critically acclaimed Risk of Rain which just didn't click.
